CONWAY, Ark. – A Conway community is coming together to help a mother of six get back on the road and give her family a little more independence.
Tanesha Davis said she cried when she found out the community had gifted her a car.
Davis learned about The Refuge shelter in Conway through family. At the time, she had no reliable way to get around, often walking wherever she needed to go with her children.
“Every time I would leave and walk, I was like, Lord, please, just give me a sign that I’m doing everything right,” Davis said.
Within just a few months, members of the community came together to donate a car for Davis while she worked toward getting her driver’s license.
Community members also provided a booster seat and car seat for her children. A year’s worth of car insurance was donated, along with a gift card from O’Reilly Auto Parts to help with the vehicle.
After years of pushing her children around in a stroller, Davis said she’s grateful she kept faith that things would eventually change—even when she least expected it.
“The fact that somebody noticed. Because you never know who’s watching,” Davis said.
Sarah Wilson, who helped organize the effort, encourages families who are struggling to walk through the doors of The Refuge.
