From the Director: See What God Has Done

There are moments in ministry when you’re so busy doing the work that you don’t have time to stop and realize just how much God has been doing around you. Our Community Banquet was one of those opportunities to stop, look around, and simply say, “Look what the Lord has done.”

What an incredible night it was! I am so thankful to Center Church for opening its doors and hosting us, for the wonderful catered meal we shared, and for every person who came to celebrate the mission of the Conway Ministry Center. More than anything, I loved having the opportunity to tell the stories of what God has been doing in our midst—through our staff, volunteers, churches, donors, community partners, and the people who walk through our doors every day.

I had another one of those “stop and look” moments recently while preparing to go on the news. I began pulling our numbers and looking at the trends from this year, and one number absolutely stopped me in my tracks: we have already served more than 11,000 meals this year. Last year, we served around 5,000.

That number is worth sitting with for a moment.

Behind every one of those meals is a person. A neighbor. A senior adult. A parent trying to stretch a paycheck. Someone without a home. Someone who may have walked through our doors carrying a burden we knew nothing about. The need has grown tremendously—but so has the opportunity for the Church to respond.

And that brings me to Feed the Need.

I have already begun sending emails and making phone calls as we prepare for this important day, because Feed the Need is about so much more than filling a schedule with volunteers. It is an opportunity for the Church to quite literally live out the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:35: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.”

Jesus reminds us that when we feed the hungry, welcome the stranger, clothe those in need, and care for the vulnerable, we are serving Him.

So when the call comes for Feed the Need, I hope you’ll answer it. Bring your church. Bring your Sunday school class. Bring your family. Come stand beside us and help make sure that when someone in our community is hungry, there is a place where they can find a meal—and people ready to remind them that they are seen and loved.

The numbers may be growing, but so is our opportunity to serve.

And I cannot wait to see what God does next.
